Chicago Mayfair Club History

Mayfair FlagThe Chicago Mayfair Lions Club was organized in October, 1947. On January 16, 1948, club received its charter with 106 members. It also is the first Club in District 1-A to sponsor a Lioness Club. The Mayfair Lioness Club was chartered on February 4, 1970. The Mayfair Lioness Club served the Mayfair community for 23 years until they voted to become members of the Mayfair Lions Club in 1993.

Since its inception, the Club has organized 2 other Lions Clubs in District
1-A, the Pan American Lions Club and the Edgebrook Lions Club.

Club members have held many District Offices such as Zone Chairman, Cabinet Secretary and District Governor.

In 1997, the Club celebrated 50 years of service in the Mayfair Community.

In 2002, a special grant received from the Marx Foundation to promote patriotism in the Mayfair Community. This grant was acknowledged by a special resolution passed by the City Council of the City of Chicago and signed by Mayor Richard M. Daley, recognizing the contributions made by the Club for the past 55 years.
