For some reason, Kenwood has dropped this wonderful unit. You can still find them used, and from time to time on e-bay.

I have made up cables for my Yeasu 736,Yeasu 5100 and Kenwood 742 as well. Every radio I have tried it with has worked! Here are the pinouts for the data port on the bottom of the unit.

We have been using these units for ARES Drills with Milwaukee Emergency Management Office. We can send images to a command post from miles away. We did a test through the Milwaukee 146.910 Repeater (which has 5 receive sites and a complex voting system) and the pics came through fine. At the command station, we have been receiving with a simple HT, and feeding the audio to a laptop running a software program called ChromaPix. From the laptop, the pics are sent to a HP color printer, and handed to the Emergency Manager, Fire Chief, Sheriff, U.S. Marshall... whoever. We have made QUITE an impression on our local EM folk. (And we're "in demand" and having fun too!).
I have build a repeater in Milwaukee that will handle (and encourages) SSTV transmissions. When in Milwaukee, try the 442.425 127.3 PL repeater. It's located in the heart of downtown.
