12 volt DC power comes from an ASTRON switching supply. This supply will take AC at 110 or 220 volts, 50 or 60 Hertz. AC power in St. Lucia (and most of the Caribbean) is 220 volts / 50Hz.
A PTT footswitch is a must. Do anything you can to free up your hands while operating.
The ARROW has plenty of gain to hear the FM birds well, but a pre amp can't hurt. This really helps on the SSB satellites. I had ARR make this 440 preamp to accept 12 volts via the vdc input OR on the output BNC. I power it right from the FT-847 through the coax feedline, so there are no extra power cables needed.
