Bob Bruninga WB4APR, originally developed the Automatic Packet Reporting System (APRs). This system uses unconnected packets (UI frames) for transmitting the position and other information about each station or object via Packet Radio. He has been working on, and enhancing this system since 1984.
I purchased a copy of DOSAPRS from Bob at the Dayton Hamvention back in 1994. I was quite excited about the concept, and some others in the Milwaukee area were interested as well. We soon found that the lack of good quality maps negated any real use for our purposes here (Event tracking and Weather reporting). It is only with the release of APRSPlus, and then with WinAPRS both linking into commercial mapping programs that allow high detail, street level tracking, that interest in APRs has really taken off.

However, simply said, I use Windows NT as my computer operating system, and DOS APRs has been lost in the dust mostly due to the very limited maps, and other political issues between the various software authors and TAPR. Things evolve... The Dinosaurs (and DOS) died.
The Current version of DOSAPRS may still be found at: TAPR.ORG
