Owning Collins equipment is considered
"Owning the Best"!

However, one problem that comes up often on the differing Collins email reflectors is the power switch located on the control switch goes bad.  This is the switch labeled OFF-STBY-OPR-CAL on the S-line receivers or OFF-REC VFO-TRANS VFO-SYNC on the S-Line transmitters.  Well one day mine went south on my 75S3C receiver and it got me to thinking.  Most often that rotary switch would be in either the OFF or the STBY position.  For those of you who don't run S-Line equipment the STBY (Standby) position is the normal  selection when using the receiver in a transceive setup with the matching transmitter.  Basically it will mute the receiver when you are transmitting.  I rarely used the calibrator as the frequency accuracy on the S-Line stuff is second to none in pre-digital world equipment.

So keeping with the Collins tradition of only using high quality components I needed to find a switch replacement that was also second to none.  Off to the hardware store I went and I found the ultimate replacement.  The nice thing about it is it fits through the same hole as the original rotary switch so in the future if one so desires, why? -  I would not know, the original switch could be repaired and returned .

I am so proud of my creativity I had to share with all my fellow Collins collectors my ultimate solution.
