I am currently researching my family and am very much the novice and would appreciate any help you may be able to give me regarding a member of my family.I found your web site when trying to get a picture of the life my GreatGreatGrandmother may have led in Lincolnshire.I have recently received a birth certificate relating to my GreatGrandfathers (Edgar Thomas Boston) mother, Charlotte Hunt who was born in 1852 and lived at 12 New Town, St. Martins Stamford, Lincolnshire. She was the d/o William HUNT and Sarah MOODY.
I would be very grateful if anyone could help me discover more about the family. I am intrigued to find out what brought her to Devon and when. The 1871 Census records Charlotte (aged 19) as a servant for the Smale family in Alphington, Exeter, Devon. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Both George and Elizabeth were born at Long Sutton, the rest of the family at Tyd St Mary. The family moved to the Rochdale area of Lancashire between 1871 and 1881, where Clara married James Fitton in 1877, they then had a daughter Ellen known as Nellie who emigrated to Australia and married Henry Stephen Summers, known as Allen about 1898.

My grandfather George Benjamin LAMBERT was born around 1894 in Ipswich, Suffolk, worked for the London & North Eastern Railway Co (don’t know original name) and was promoted to Stationmaster at Thurlby, Lincolnshire between 1930 & 1936 when he moved to Cheshire. I am trying to trace him or his family & predecessors (wife Gladys Ethel Clarke - married Harvington, Worcs 23/09/1920) in Lincolnshire in the 1930s or indeed any information about the station in the 1930s. My father Derek Hemming LAMBERT would also have been in Lincolnshire as an only child with them between 1930 & 1936.I did find an article in the Stamford (?) Mercury saying how well kept the station was at that time.

My third Grt. grandfather, John FORMAN, was s/o John Forman b. 1787 Swaby, and Ann WALLER, born abt. 1783 Panton . They were mar. in Withern, in 1809, John FORMAN Jr. their son, was christened in Croft in 1816. He likely mar., Ann BAGLEY in Burgh, 1835. They had two children, Mary Ann b. 1835, in Wainfleet and Hannah b. 1837 Croft. Both children died in the year of their birth. Don,t know what happened to Ann but in the 1841 cens. John Jr. FORMAN is with his parents in Thorpe and no sign of Ann. In the churchyard of the parish church of Thorpe St.Peter, there is a memorial cross for this FORMAN family and on it is John, Jr.Forman's death given as 1865 Canada. I enquired regarding John FORMAN b. 1816, Lincolnshire my third Grt. grandparent, whom, we only recently identified, as being born near Wainfleet, Lincolnshire England, from, the reference to him on his 5th childs remarriage certificate of 1921. John Jr. Forman, remarried a Margaret nee Long b. abt. 1815, from Co.Antrim Ireland, first recorded, on 1851 cens. Westminister Twp. Middlesex Co. Ont. Can. Margaret died, 1880,bur.Cairo, Euphemia Twp.Lambton Co.Ont.Can. John died, 1865, last res. Dorchestor, Ont.Can. Margaret raised five children as a widow., in Cairo,Euphemia Twp. Lambton Co.Ont.Can. Some of their children, went too Manitoba Canada, and descendents are out there, another branch stayed in Ontario. We know little more of John Forman, but since, he and his parents, and first wife were from Lincolnshire, I thought I would forward this information for your index. I,ve searched 30 years for the specific place in England he was from, and am very pleased too have this knowledge. Any siblings or other branches of this family, their Canadian cousins would be thrilled to hear from.

Richard WILSON (b, 1794, Spittlegate) married Sarah PINDER in 1817 in Heydour, and had at least ten children in Welby, Manthorpe, Belton-by-Grantham and Spanby. Some grandchildren moved outside the county (some christened in Grantham). Related surnames are OGDEN, THICKETT OR THIRKETT. I am also descended from another WILSON family at Westborough cum Doddington, via a Mary OGDEN, whose parents were Matthew WiILSON and Eleanor BROWN.

The papers appears to be velum-parchment? and mentions a 10 pound premium and has a medium blue, attched square of paper that seems to be a seal with a circular stamp(about the size of a quarter dated 27-11-76 at bottom and Lincoln across the top.I have his original allegiance form dated Feb 7,1884 signed by Clerk of Circuit Court,state of Wisconsin La Fayette county Then there is a second form that states he was administered the oath again in March 28 1893 or it confirms that he was given the oath in 1884.

I am trying to find out mopre information about John ATKIN who was my grandfather. He was born around 1880 in Lincolnshire and married a woman from Nottingham, Ada HOLLINGSWORTH (or HOLLINGWORTH). He was an engine fitter or engineer of some sort, but moved to Newcastle upon Tyne.
In 1906, when my father was born, John and Ada were living in the same house in Newcastle, that was occupied in 1901 by a William DAVEY, who had the same occupation as John, and came from West Halton in Lincolnshire, and his wife Alice, who was from Nottingham. It is possible that Ada and Alice were related, though I have not been to prove this. I think there must have been some sort of connection between John and William. Can anyone help?

He appears to be the child of William LILLY and Sarah (WEST).1841 census the family is at Shephards Stow, chapelry of Whaplode Drove and 1851 census at 14 Shepeau Stow - although Daniel is not present. However, he is to be found at Holbeach Union House, Spalding Gate, parish of Fleet as a pauper/scholar. He claims to have migrated to South Australia aboard "Grand Trianon" in April 1860 but I cannot verify this. Why would the eldest child in a family be sent to the poorhouse? Any relevant information on this family would be appreciated.

HURLSTON – Henrietta (nee Middlebrough) b. 1873 Bradford Yks and Charles James. Married on 6 Sep 1896 at St. Swithin, Lincoln
LARKINS – Martha Elizabeth (nee Middlebrough) b. 1863 Wisbech Cambs. and Frederick. Married on 20th Dec 1880 at Wisbech St. Peter, Wisbech Cambs but moved to Lincoln. Martha died in 1997 aged 35 and two of their sons were killed in WW1. Herbert Larkins was a Petty Officer and went down on the HMS Plymouth 15 Jun 1916. Arthur d. 8 Jun 1917 and was buried in Arras, France.
ROSE – Jane Ann (nee Middlebrough) b. 1877 Bradford Yks and John Thomas. Married in 1911 in Lincoln.
SHARPE – Beatrice (nee Middlebrough) b. 1884 Bradford Yks and Thomas married in 13 May 1906 St. Swithin, Lincoln.

My great-grandfather William HODGSON was born in Bardney in 1822 and moved to Merthyr Tydfil late in 1851 where he was a policeman. (I have been unable to locate him on the 1841 and 1851 censuses).His father of the same name was a farmer at Bardney and had married Ann CLAY (bp 1793) of Minting.One of their daughters, Annie (1826-1902), married John COY (1825-1872) a butcher of Quadring. Their oldest son, John HODGSON (1819-1899) was baptised at Minting and farmed in Tetford where he married Mary Cadney HOLDSWORTH (1824-1874). They moved south to Surrey. The family origins are at Wood Enderby where David HODGSON (1743-1822) and his wife Mary (1753-1826) baptised their children. Their daughter, Rebecca (bp 1796) married Joseph CLARK of Wragby who was a miller in the town.
