SUE HOLT
SURNAMES: BENNETT, (KING)
Being a complete beginner at this research I've succeeded in tracing the
maternal side of my family to early 19th century with help from my mother's
memory bank, censuses and searching! Hopeless with paternal side as my father
Herbert BENNETT died in 1989. By getting a copy of his birth certificate
(Jan 1920) I've established he was born in Sudbrook, Ancaster to John BENNETT
and Emma nee KING. I also know that some(all?) of his siblings were Arthur,Fred,
Jack. William and Nell and that Nell was more of a mother than a sister -
presumably Emma died when he was young? During Herbert's youth the family
lived in Foston. I would be gratefull for any information on any of the above
named or suggestions as to the next step forward, having tried census's and
bmd's.

My great grandfather on my mother's side was TUNNARD AASPLAND Shaw b. ca
1834 in Swineshead, his father I believe was Robert Shaw (1808) who was married
to a Rebecca TUNNARD (1806) I believe that Rebecca descends from the TUNNARDs
of Kirton, her father was possibly Esau TUNNARD (1780) and her grandfather
could have been Robert TUNNARD (1765). For my great grandfather to have been
given the christian names of "TUNNARD ASPLAND" somwhere along the line back
there must have been a link with the ASPLAND family. A search in IGI reveals
ASPLANDs and TUNNARDs being in the same village of Kirton in Holland going
back into 18th and 19th centuries. I'd like to hear from all who are researching
these lines.

PEARSON
SURNAMES: HIGGS/HICKS, STINSON
My quest to find Eliza STINSON and her family is not just for family history
research but for medical reasons too. There is a history of breast cancer
in both sides of my family (unfortunately I am one of them) and through
researching my family I have discovered from an elderly relative that Eliza
and one of her daughters suffered with the disease. We are trying to
find out if there is a genetic link or just bad luck that it struck
twice in her immediate family.
My Great Grandparents Joseph and Eliza STINSON (nee HIGGS) were married at
Sheffield, Yorkshire in September 1869. Eliza stated she was 19 years old
and that her father was William HIGGS, a stone mason. I have looked at 1850
births and for a few years on either side but no luck. Eliza died when she
was 92, a wonderful age considering she gave birth to at least 11 children
and lost several others.
The only evidence I have that she was born in Gainsborough, Lincolnshire
is from the 1871 census for Sheffield (the entry states Gainsbro which I
believe is a common abbreviation) On subsequent census her birth place is
either blank or states Sheffield. I cannot find her birth on the St.
Catherines Indexes. An elderly relative has intimated that her name
was spelt wrong and it should have been HICKS but her childrens birth
certificates all state her maiden name as HIGGS. On one certificate it does
state Eliza Maria STINSON (nee HIGGS) and the registrar has crossed out Maria
and initialled the error. I suppose it is possible she was baptised but not
registered. I cannot progress with my research until I find her birth. Are
there are a lot of churches in Gainsborough?

SURNAMES: THOMPSON, WHALER
Looking for the above surnames in the Hundleby, Partney and Spilsby areas.
The earliest date I have is for the THOMPSON family which is 1807. The WHALER
family about 1830 sorry can't be more specific but the families moved around
a lot, one minute they are in Essex, the next in London and then in Lincolnshire
also afar a field as Canada. Maybe if I put a start date at 1800+ I know
they were still in Lincolnshire in 1901.

born 10 Nov 1893 in Union Workhouse, Horncastle.
I am trying to find out where Sarah Ann VICKERS (born ca 1864/5) was born
and who her family was. I would also like to know who Thomas ELSEY'S father
was. Apparently, Sarah Ann VICKERS never married, though she had between
8 or 10 children but not to the same man. I located Sarah Ann VICKERS on
the Billinghay 1901 census. The family have always been led to believe Sarah
Ann VICKERS was born in Horncastle. The only other Sarah Ann VICKERS I have
found that could fit is in the 1871 Census where she is living in the Foundry
Cottages as a Nurse Child. Any help appreciated!

CRAWFORD
SURNAME: CRAXFORD/CROXFORD
I am attempting to trace a branch of our family which appears to have had
links with the Spalding area of Lincolnshire. The name CRAXFORD was
interchangeable with CROXFORD and the time scale is around 1740 to 1800.
I have found single items in Pallot (Marriage) and the FamilySearch LDS database
The usual stated village named was Crowland. The most common christian names
were Richard, Elizabeth and Thomas. They seem to have disappeared from the
area in the early 1800s (I am pretty certain that the majority moved to London
around that time). Ultimately I am attempting to link this branch back to
the main family root originating in Northamptonshire in 1620 -
www.craxford-family.co.uk. Many thanks for any pointers to local Lincoln
sources would be gratefully received.
