#2861 - ERROL KIRKE
SURNAME: KIRKE
I am trying to obtain information on two aspects of my forebears. The first relates to Theophilus KIRKE, my great grandfather, who was born in Irby 1815 married Maria SWEETING 16 April 1848 at Manchester, migrated to New South Wales somewhere about 1848/1849. Specifically I would like to know where he lived before migrating, what his occupation was, what ship he migrated on, the names of any descendants still living in Lincolnshire who might be able to fill me in on any family background, or the names of any body also doing a family history on the KIRKES.
Secondly I am interested in trying to trace the male side pedigree line back as far as I can in order to see if there is any truth in what I think is a family myth that we are related to Sir David KIRKE,( born France 1596 died 1656) who commanded an expedition to Canada and who was later appointed Govenor of Newfoundland. From a family tree chart drawn up in the late 1800's I can trace the line back to a Rev George KIRKE born 1699 Immingham married 1723 to Elizabeth (maiden name unknown ). He died 11 September 1727. I have only the name of his father also a Rev George KIRKE born 1673 Immingham but no further information. I would like to know more about this George KIRKE eg when married, to whom where, when died and names and birthdates of offspring etc but in particular does the pedegree line lead back to Sir David? Any help offered would be greatly appreciated.

SURNAMES: LINCOLN, WILLERTON
I have only recently started searching for my great grandfather. His name was Thomas LINCOLN and he was born in West Ashby in about 1823. He married Maria WILLERTON who was born about 1827. They sailed on the "Panama" from Liverpool arriving in Tasmania, Australia on 27 April 1853. Thomas died at Geeveston, Tasmania on 27 June 1897. In his obituary published in the local newspaper it mentioned that he had been born in West Ashby, Lincolnshire and was a colonist for 44 years. It also added: Home papers please copy which makes me think that somehow news went back to the local paper either in West Ashby or Horncastle. I would appreciate any help or information on either his parents or any siblings.

His father was William CROFT II and mother Mary DAVIDSON. . He married in 1811 in Canada. He was my grandfather's grandfather. In the research my cousin's father found out that William CROFT's father was called William CRAFT II. May be the name changed for some reason. Three brothers came here from Aberdeen, Scotland, but I am not sure in what year or why. One of them was one of my ancestors William CROFT, born Jan.17, 1787 in Lincolnshire. One stayed in Montréal (Québec), the second went in Kamouraska (Québec) and the other went to the USA. I am looking for their parents. I would appreciate any ideas to help me find more ancestors.
