SURNAME: THURBER
I am just beginning to research. Someone has supposedly found a record for
James THURBER in Lincolnshire, but I haven't been able to verify that. I

although I haven't been able to locate their names over there. The only THURBER
I have been able to find is in Bristol. John was supposedly born in 1626
in "Stainton, Lincolnshire, England.". He died on 23 Nov 1709 at Swansea,
Bristol Co. MA. His father was James THURBER, allegedly from Stainton. This
is all I have to go on. Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

MOORE
SURNAME: BOOR
I purchased a Soldiers pocket prayer book from a flea-market in Burnley,
Lancashire. The Prayer book was published by the Society for promoting knowledge
and dated 1853. On the inside front cover page is the following inscription:
Gunr & Driver Robt. BOOR
No. 5 Company
12 Battalion Royal Artillery
British Camp Crimea - 1855 to 29 June 1856
India, from 31 December 1857 to 23 May 1863.
China, from June 63 to 1865
India from 1865 to October 1866 - then home.
His address is given as Cowbit, Near, Spalding Lincolnshire.
I looked on the IGI and found a Robert BOOR who was christened on 13th Sept.
1818 at Spalding, Lincoln. He was the nearest match. If this was him, he
would have been 37 years of age in 1855 and 48 years of age when he returned
home from India in 1866. I hope that a descendant of his family will come
forward so that I may present (re-unite) the family with this Prayer-Book.

HILLMAN
SURNAMES: CLARKE, RAND(E)
CLARKE, Walter John. Probably vicar of Swinderby, Lincs, England 1843 - 1876.
Wife was named Mary. Six children (at least) of whom one was a mover and
shaker - George Sydenham Clarke 1848 - 1933 governor of Melbourne, Aus around
1900. For other children I have less precise dates, but names of the known
ones (probably) were Agnes Mary Clarke, Catherine Clarke, Mary A Clarke,
Ellen G Clarke and R E Clarke. I'd welcome firmer information on the children
and remoter issue who seem likely to have fetched up in Australia or England
- but that is only 'intelligent' speculation. I have some info on WJCs
antecedents but here, again, always welcome. corroboration. RANDE, Henry
(Holbech) de 1477 - 1551, Bishop of Lincoln under King Edward VI, and reportedly
first English bishop (presumably that is post reformation) to be married.
Buried Lincoln Cathedral (though a family bible states Nettleham where certainly
he had close connections). I have a single line linking him to a descendant
Richard Rand who died Baddow, Essex, and subsequently plenty of remoter issue,
but am interested, especially, in any other lines of descent especially from
the earlier generations.

SURNAMES: THOMPSON, COCKING
I am looking for more info on my great-great grandfather's family. He was
William THOMPSOPN, m. Elizabeth COCKING in Thorney 6 Nov 1804. My family
believes he was a wheelwright or wagoner working for her more affluent family
in Broadholme. His death records say he was born in 1775 in Lincolnshire.
Only Wm. THOMPSON I can find via internet here in US, has a William THOMPSON
born to Robert and Ann THOMPSON, christened 1775 in Greatford. Geographically
this seems to me (from US) to be quite far for a workman to travel to find
work. He emigrated to US in 1807. Any help will be greatly appreciated! What
I need is more info on William THOMPSON (who appears also to have middle
name of Norton, but no known family connections there either - his son was
called William Norton THOMPSON Jr.).

May 1845) and Sarah Ann MASSINGALE (b. Sept 1844) came from Lincolnshire
to the USA in 1876 (date found on 1900 census in Richmond, VA). Married the

is that he is somehow related to Sir Joseph Banks (but not a direct descendant
obviously). Returned to England for the birth of 1st daughter in 1881, also
Sarah Ann. 2nd (Effie Jane) & 3rd (Carrie Hague) daughters born in Taunton,

CHARLESWORTH
SURNAMES: CHARLESWORTH, FOSTER, SMITH
I have traced my line back to David CHARLESWORTH, who married a Mary FOSTER
on 1/2/1799 in Hull, but who lived in and raised a family in Barton on Humber. He
was a brickmaker, and several of his descendants were associated with Brick
and Tile Making in Barton on Humber. I am rather stumped at finding anything
about his parents and where he came from. I am also rather stuck as to when
he died. I suspect he might be related to a family CHARLESWORTH which seemed
to have several members residing in Wrawby in the mid 1700s, but nothing
so far has shown up to establish a connection. I also suspect that he might
have been widowered at some stage and remarried a girl with the same Christian
name "Mary", but if this is so I cannot find when his first wife died or
when or where he might have remarried. However others who have traced the
tree before me have respectively suggested that his wife was Mary FOSTER
and Mary SMITH. I would like to clear up this confusion. My other query concerns
his son Luke CHARLESWORTH (born Jan 1800, Barton on Humber). I believe he
may have married at St Peter at Gowts Church, Lincoln, but I cannot find
when. All I know of his bride is she was called "Ann": I would like to establish
her family name / background. If anyone has any information they might be
willing to share, I would be most appreciative.

Horatio HOYLE bapt. 3 Nov Wrangle. They married 15 Jan 1857, Leake and
immigranted 1867 to USA. Sarah's parents were Thomas BAKER bapt 1 Jul 1791,
Leake, d. 27 Feb 1837, Leake, and Susanna CLARK bap 1795. Leake, d. 14 Feb
1846, Leake, and married 17 May 1816, Leake.
Thomas BAKER parents were George BAKER b.1753 (this date from burial record)
bur. 25 Feb 1814, Leake and Mary Unknown b. 1760, (also from burial record)
and bur. 3 Oct 1831.These records all from St. Mary's Church in Old Leake.
I have not been able to find the BAKER family any earlier in these records.
The place names of Leicester and Hull were mentioned in the family but I
don't know what the connection is.
Susanna CLARK's parents were William CLARK b. 1758 and Jane WILLIAMS b. 1760.
They were married 1787 in Leverton. I don't know if that is a lead as well.
My cousin and I would like to be able to take the BAKER family back further
if it is possible. The BAKER family was considered well-to-do but Thomas
BAKER's estate was under 200 lbs. So either that rumor was false or the estate
was divided before Thomas died. There was supposed to be a building in London
and there was much travel from England to Marion, Marion Co. OH by BAKER
family members probably before 1930. We do not know of any correspondence
between England and the family here.

ABBOTT
SURNAMES: ABBOT(T), ALMOND
I am looking for the parents of a John ABBOT (could be ABBOTT - the civil
registry showed just one T but all other records I have found showed two)
born around 1830. He married a Mary ALMOND in Horncastle, Lincolnshire, Eng
in the June qtr of 1860. Mary's parent were Wright and Sarah Almond. John
and Mary had three children that I know of for sure: George William ABBOTT
(1863), Ann ABBOTT(1866) and Richard Wright ABBOTT (1869 or 70). The first
two were born in Lincolnshire but I cannot find Richard's place of birth.
There could be a Thomas ABBOTT born in 1861in Lincolnshire - not sure if
he belongs to them though even though he was on the ship with them. The whole
family went to the states via Glasgow on the SS Assyria and arrived June
28, 1871 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. If info is needed for after 1871,
I can pass that on too. I have requested the marriage license from the GRO.
Hopefully, there will be something on there. I also have a bit on the ALMOND
family. They were all from Lincolnshire too. I have Wright and Sarah's parents
also. Any info on these families would be much appreciated.

is in the E. Retford district. To be on the safe side, Gainsborough would
