SURNAMES: BAKER, MAL(L)AM, SCARBROUGH
I am searching for a John MALAM (MALLAM) and a Jane SCARBROUGH (SCARBOROUGH)
. John was born in Owmby, 19 March 1816. He died, 2 October 1899, in Black
Hawk Co., IA, USA. From what I can glean from his obituary, Jane was also
born in the same general area in Lincolnshire. They were married in "early
life" and had eleven children, although if they were all born in England
I can't say with certainty.
John and Jane immigrated to the US and settled in Centreville, St.Joseph
Co, Michigan in 1856. I have a death date for Jane as, 5 February1874, in
that same location. John appears to have stayed there and then eventually
headed to Iowa to live with his daughter, Rebecca Malam BAKER. Rebecca married
a Robert BAKER who was also from Lincolshire, 5 May 1840. I would appreciate
any help anyone may provide as with the many John Malam's I encounter in
England, it is very difficult to ascertain which is the one I am researching!

SURNAME: SCRIMSHAW
I am interested in tracing my family tree as I have two 'pieces' that seem
to fit together but need to go further back.My Grandad Leslie Roper SCRIMSHAW
(born 1907, died 1990) came from Long Sutton. He married Miriam Clifton (from
Sutton St James). Grandad had two brothers and two sisters:- Harold (who
married Ivy), Dorrie (Doris) (who married Reg Wright), Jack (who married
Elizabeth - known ad Did), Gwen (married Ron Seaman). They all lived in the
Spalding/Holbeach area.Does anyone know of a connection in Lincolnshire between
the SCRIMSHAW and the Roper family?
My Grandad's middle name was Roper but he never asked why! We think we might
be able to tie up with the Roper family (and I will try and cut a long story
short) but a friend of ours whos maiden name was Scrimshaw has an ancestors
who also had Roper as a middle name. We think that my great, great grandfather
and one of her relations may have been brothers but just need the proof!
(Hope that makes sense!)
Also, does anyone know where I could find records of marriages/deaths in
the Long Sutton area, my family were not Anglicans and my grandparents marriage
was the first to be recorded in the Sutton St James Baptist Church book!
#2253 - IAN LLOYD
SURNAME: LLOYD
I have been hunting for the roots of my Great Great Grandfather, Samuel LLOYD,
for a while with little success. (really annoying when I have virtually all
branches barring my own surname back in the 1700s!!) I know his father was
Robert from his marriage certificate. This together with the 1881 Census
and his death the following year put his birth 1843/44, most likely sometime
between December and March. The 1881 Census, when he lived with his family
in Dewsbury, Yorkshire, gives his place of birth as London, Middlesex. However,
the only Samuel in London did not return Robert as father, and I have an
inkling the birthplace may be wrong anyway. A clue has turned up in the form
as a possible Lloyd relative married in Dewsbury not long after him, who
was born in Barrowby, near Grantham. The IGI tells me that a Robert LLOYD
and his wife Lucy had children christened there in the 1830s - could Samuel
be a later addition to this family ? And if not to this family, one perhaps
closely connected ? I also noted that not far away is a village called
Londonthorpe - could this be where the confussion stems from?

Family story says Edith Ann ( my Grandmother ) was born in Grimsby before
her parents married & brought up by her Grandparents at Baston nr. Bourne. But
Birth Certificate received from Grimsby R.O. states D.O.B. 9th December 1873
Father John WOODWARD, Mother Emily WOODWARD formerly PRESGRAVE. I have always
suspected Emily lied about being married at the time of Edith Ann's registration,
Especially on receiving the Birth Cert. of Edith Ann's sister, Maud Mary
WOODWARD born 20th July 1876. ( family know this date to be correct ) at
Wakefield, no name of Father is given & mothers name is Emily WOODWARD
a Dressmaker. I have Marriage Cert. of an Emma WOODWARD ( father's name John
WOODWARD ) to Richard HARPER at R.O. Wakefield, 5th Dec 1876. When Maud Mary
married in 1899 her father is given as Richard WEBSTER HARPER. However when
Edith Ann married in 1895 her Father is given as Richard WOODWARD. Can anyone
help me sort this tangle and get back another generation on the correct path?

Joseph ASTLING birthdate & place unknown - in 1843 he was living in Bardney,

& place unknown - was the son of Joseph, was working as a blacksmith
as well, and married Jane KNOTT on 16 August 1843 in Bardney who we believe
to have been born in Bardney in 1818. We do not as yet have documentary evidence
of that.
Ellen ASTLING, daughter born Bardney believed 1844, (baptismal record shows
2 June 1844), married on 20 November 1867, to John COOLING of South Clifton
at parish church of North Scarle. We visited the church recently and were
delighted to be shown the original Marriage Certificate which was still stored

time had 8 children!! If you have any dates or locations or other information,

My great Grandfather William WAUDBY, born Aug. 1845 in Grantham, Linclonshire,
married on 26 Dec. 1873 to Rebecca NORTHEDGE, born 24 Sept. 1848 in Grantham.
I don t know if the marriage happened in Grantham as the certificate only
stated names and places. It is witnessed by Charles WISE (unknown person)
and Elisa NORTHEDGE(obviously related to the bride) it is signed by Samuel
Hutton, Methodist Min. As this is my first attempt to find relatives across
the pond, I really don't know where to start. All that I know is that they
are from Grantham, and assume they were born there. If so, How would I find
records for birth or census records for others with WAUDBY and NORTHEDGE
names (thankfully both are not common names). I did find a record of a Rebecca
NORTHEDGE on Family Search.com that was a christening record for someone
of the same name but 20 years or more older as the christening occurred on
Feb. 29, 1824 with parents William and Ann NORTHEDGE. This occurred at the
Methodist Chapel-Nc, Grantham, Lincoln, England. These people must surely
be related somehow. I would appreciate any suggesdtions or help.
