SURNAME: MACKEY/MACKRILL
I am searching for information on my greatgreatgrandfather Henry MACKEY.
I have his family bible and his obituary says he was born in Addelthorpe
about 1840, came to the USA to fight in the Civil War. The family legend
has it that he landed somewhere in the South and enlisted, fought for a short
while and realized his sentiment was more aligned to the Northern cause.
He deserted, made his way North where he changed his name to MACKEY and
re-enlisted. He fought on the Northern side until the end of the war. I have
not been able to locate any information of Henry MACKEY being born in Addlethorpe
during that time frame. Inside the family Bible are two death notices. 1)
For a Miller MACKRILL, son of Elizabeth MACKRILL and 2) For Elizabeth MACKRILL
of Addlethorpe widow of Edward MACKRILL.
