REFERENCE BOOKS THAT I HAVE FROM LINCOLNSHIRE
You are number since 16 March 1997.
I will be happy to search any of the following booklets for your Lincolnshire Research. Email your request to: Nan Clark . Please be quite sure that the surnames that you want me to search for have been in that particular location at a time approximate to the date of the book.
Please note that the Census Indexes of Surnames are just THAT - Indexes! ONLY surnames are listed and there could be many, many for a common name - like CLARK!! These indexes give listings only of where to find all of these surnames and sometimes they can get quite lengthy, so you will have to be patient with me when you request entries from these indexes.
Other Books that I have on Lincolnshire Histories that I would suggest
for you to read are:
1. Lincolnshire History and Archaeology - Vol.23,1988 - Includes a Medical
Register List for Lincoln during the 18th Century.
2. Lincolnshire History and Archaelogy - Vol.24 1989.
The above two books were published by, and are possibly obtainable from,
the Family History Society of Lincolnshire. There are also several other
books in this series.
3. A Pocket Guide to the Fenland - By Trevor Bevis
4. Water Water Everywhere (The Draining of the Fens) - by Trevor Bevis
5. Watch and Ward In the Countryside - (A Review of the Development of the
County Constabulary.....based on the Market Town of Horncastle) By J.N.
Clarke
6. An Historical Atlas Of Lincolnshire - Published by University of Hull
Press - an excellent book in order to learn about Lincolnshire's exciting
and sometimes, turbulant history. I bought this book at the Lincoln Archives
Office in 1994 and I assume that they still sell copies of it.
*These Particular booklets were variously published from 1987 through 1993.
I have acquired some more books when I was in Lincoln in September. They
are:
1. Lincolnshiric by Fred Dobson - a collection of cartoons about
Linconshire
2. Lincolnshire Folk by Fred Dobson - poems & stories in Lincolnshire
dialect
3. Lincolnshire Dialects by G. Edward Campion
4. The History Of St. Lukes Church, North Kyme - 1877-1982
5. South Kyme, the History of a Fenland Village by Margaret Newton
6. A Latin Glossary for Family and Local Historians by Janet Morris
7. Farming In Lincolnshire by Eric Croft
8. A Lincolnshire Hotchpotch by John Ketteringham - a collection of stories
& poems
9. A Second Lincolnshire Hotchpotch by John Ketteringham
10. Land and People in Medieval Lincolnshire by Graham Platts - 4th in a
series
11. In Lincolnshire Long Ago by Douglas Lamming - a story of Horncastle

The following books would be of special help to read before you make a trip to the Lincolnshire Archives in Lincoln. If you can't find these books, send me an email and I will give you the address of the publisher who, I'm sure, will be able to help you.
The books are:
1. Discovering Parish Boundaries by Angus Winchester, published 1990 by Shire
Publications,Ltd.
2. A Gazetteer of Historic Lincolnshire published by the Lincolnshire Family History Society
3. Genealogical Sources In Lincolnshire published by the Lincolnshire Family History Society
4. Tracing Your ancestors In the Public Record Office by Jane Cox & Timothy Padfield and published in London by Her Majesty's Stationery Office.
Another good idea is to join the Lincolnshire Family History Society. They publish a quarterly booklet that is filled with information about Lincolnshire. Write to the LINCOLNSHIRE ARCHIVES for information. There is a membership link with an application form along with a link to the publications list. You don't have to be a member of the society to make a purchase of these publications.
There are also two other web sites that would be most useful to you. One is by Cyndi Howells and is called CyndisList. The other one is GENUKI - or Genealogy Research in the UK and Ireland
There is a gentleman named Dave Gates, who has a remarkable Web site all about just the United Kingdom. If you want to look at it, please go to the following address: DR.DAVE'S UK PAGES
