UML Shuttle
The UML shuttle is capable of transporting a standard sized container, passenger cabin, cryosleep container, or vehicle from low orbit to a planets surface and back. The cargo is attached to the shuttle by a magnetic grapple located in the center of the shuttle frame. The shuttle has four fuel storage pods, two on each side forward and aft of the cargo area. A single main engine is mounted on the rear of the shuttle with directional rockets located on each fuel storage pod. All engines use the standard fusion drive mechanism, providing the shuttle with more than ample power for take offs and landings with heavy loads. The shuttle is equipped with retracting landing gear to minimize storage space while attached to a starship.

The cockpit for the UML shuttle is the same as used on the UML starship. This reduces the weight of the shuttle while in transit and also greatly reduces the cost of the cockpit. The cockpit seats two crew and has its own generator and life support systems. The cockpit has its own control jets and can eject in the event of an emergency.
Shuttles are occassionally outfitted with additional fuel storage pods to allow them to be used for travel between planets and asteroids within a star system. A single shuttle equipped with additional fuel pods is capable of pulling a tow line of up to 20 standard containers or an equivalent mass of raw ores, asteroid fragments, or ice chunks.
