One God, The Father, The Son, and The Holy Ghost !
The
Eleventh Sunday after Trinity.
Psalm 68. Exsurgat Deus.
LET
God arise, and let his enemies be scattered; * let them also that hate
him flee before him.
2
Like as the smoke vanisheth, so shalt thou drive them away; * and
like as wax melteth at the fire, so let the ungodly perish at the
presence of God.
3
But let the righteous be glad, and rejoice before God; * let them
also be merry and joyful.
4
O sing unto God, and sing praises unto his Name; magnify him that
rideth upon the heavens; * praise him in his Name JAH, and rejoice
before him.
5
He is a Father of the fatherless, and defendeth the cause of the
widows; * even God in his holy habitation.
6
He is the God that maketh men to be of one mind in an house, and
bringeth the prisoners out of captivity; * but letteth the runagates
continue in scarceness.
7
O God, when thou wentest forth before the people; * when thou
wentest through the wilderness,
8
The earth shook, and the heavens dropped at the presence of God;
* even as Sinai also was moved at the presence of God, who is the God of
Israel.
9
Thou, O God, sentest a gracious rain upon thine inheritance, *
and refreshedst it when it was weary.
10
Thy congregation shall dwell therein; * for thou, O God, hast of
thy goodness prepared for the poor.
The Old Testament lesson is
found in the 26th Chapter of Isaiah, beginning with 12th verse.
(12) LORD,
thou wilt ordain peace for us: for thou also hast wrought all our works
in us.
(13) O LORD
our God, other lords
beside thee have had dominion over us:
but by thee only will we
make mention of thy name.
(14)
They are dead, they
shall not live; they are
deceased, they shall not rise: therefore hast thou visited and destroyed
them, and made all their memory to perish.
(15) Thou hast
increased the nation, O LORD, thou hast increased the nation: thou art
glorified: thou hadst removed
it far unto all
the ends of the earth.
(16) LORD, in
trouble have they visited thee, they poured out a prayer
when thy chastening
was upon them.
(19) Thy dead
men shall live,
together with my dead
body shall they arise. Awake and sing, ye that dwell in dust: for thy
dew is as the dew of
herbs, and the earth shall cast out the dead.
Here ends the Old Testament
lesson.
The Collect.
O GOD, who declarest thy almighty power chiefly in showing mercy and
pity; Mercifully grant unto us such a measure of thy grace, that we,
running the way of thy commandments, may obtain thy gracious
promises, and be made partakers of thy heavenly treasure; through
Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
BRETHREN, I declare
unto you the gospel which I preached unto you, which also ye have
received, and wherein ye stand; by which also ye are saved, if ye
keep in memory what I preached unto you, unless ye have believed in
vain. For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also
received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the
scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third
day according to the scriptures: and that he was seen of Cephas,
then of the twelve: after that, he was seen of above five hundred
brethren at once; of whom the greater part remain unto this present,
but some are fallen asleep. After that, he was seen of James; then
of all the apostles. And last of all he was seen of me also, as of
one born out of due time. For I am the least of the apostles, that
am not meet to be called an apostle, because I perse-cuted the
church of God. But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace
which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more
abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was
with me. Therefore whether it were I or they, so we preach, and so
ye believed.
Here endeth the Epistle
The Holy Gospel † is written in
the 18th chapter of St. Luke, beginning at the 9th verse.
JESUS spake this
parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were
righteous, and despised others: Two men went up into the temple to
pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican. The Pharisee
stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not
as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this
publican. I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I
possess. And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so
much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God
be merciful to me a sinner. I tell you, this man went down to his
house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth
himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be
exalted.
The word of the Lord!
Kyrie, eleison.
Christe, eleison.
Kyrie, eleison.
For the Spirit of Prayer.
ALMIGHTY God, who pourest out on all who desire it, the spirit of grace and of supplication; Deliver us, when we draw nigh to thee, from coldness of heart and wanderings of mind, that with stedfast thoughts and kindled affections, we may worship thee in spirit and in truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For Guidance.
O GOD, by whom the meek are guided in judgment, and light riseth up in darkness for the godly; Grant us, in all our doubts and uncertainties, the grace to ask what thou wouldest have us to do, that the Spirit of Wisdom may save us from all false choices, and that in thy light we may see light, and in thy straight path may not stumble; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
For One Departed.
ALMIGHTY God, we remember this day before thee thy faithful servant Fred, and we pray thee that, having opened to him the gates of larger life, thou wilt receive him more and more into thy joyful service; that he may win, with thee and thy servants everywhere, the eternal victory; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
