Haffner

Thomas HAFFNER -- born 1870, place unknown. Married Margaret SWATLICK in 1906 either in Eau Claire or Lublin. They had 5 children whom they gave up for adoption. The 5 were: Helen, Margaret, Mary, Ernest (born 1912) and Harry. Ernests' last known whereabouts was in Owen, Wisconsin and I believe that is also where he is buried. I do know that the parents came to Lublin to give the children away and doubt that there were any formal papers filed. They went to a local restaurant and bar and placed them from there. I think all kids were living in the Lublin area. Just don't know where to get started. Need HELP! Please contact Patricia Cleveland. (10/96)

Halvorson

Searching for information on Holge HALVORSON, born in 1797 in Aal Parish, Buskerud, Norway. His wife was Ingeborg Olsdotter, born also in Norway in 1806. Their sons were Ole Helgeson (b. 1829) and Halvor Helgeson (b. 1846). They also had four daughters: Ingrid (b. 1832), Haldis (b. 1834), Anne (b. 1838) and Randi (b. 1841). Ole Helgeson settled in Newburg, Fillmore county, MN, married Isabel Olson and raised 7 children. Halvor Helgeson (my great grandfather) served in the Civil War, settled in Ada, MN. Haldis Holgesdotter married a Sevat SEVATSON.

The family emigrated from Norway in 1850, going first to Rock County, Wisconsin until 1857, when they went to Fillmore County, although there was a stop somewhere in Iowa along the way. Looking for Holge Halvorson's American citizenship information and death/burial -- may have been in Rock County. Please contact Susan Helgeson with leads or information. (10/96)

Hanley

Looking for great-great-grandfather Michael J. HANLEY. Born in 1824 in County Mayo, Ireland, married in Sheboygan Falls, Wisconsin in early 1860s. Came to Memphis, TN in May (??) 1864 to enlist in Union Army. Wounded and discharged in Nashville where he remained. Wife Margaret Coine (Coyne-??) moved here in 1864 to nurse him. Hartl

Lorenz HARTL emigrated from Austria with a large family in 1881, and settled a few years later in Marshfield, Wisconsin where he owned a hotel. Some of his children were born in Depoldowitz and at lease one in Neuern. Wenzel HARTL died in Marshfield in 1902. Another Wenzel HARTL, born 1883 in Depoldowitz, emigrated to the US in 1906 and later settled in Marshfield with a brother Peter. Most of them were in the sawmill business in Austria, and the later ones continued this in the U.S. I am looking for the relationship of all these HARTL's. So far, I cannot tie any of them together, though they came from the same town in Austria to the same town (Marshfield) here. Any information would be greatly appreciated by Duane F. Gerstenberger. Harvey

I am interested in my great grandmother who died in Wisconsin. She was Nancy (LONGFELLOW) HARVEY. She was married to Ebenezer Burnham HARVEY. I would like to know her date of death and where she is buried. I know they lived in Rock County for some years but I do not know if she died there. I would appreciate any help possible. Haseltine

I am looking for information regarding my great grandfather, Adelbert HASELTINE. Born in 1828 he moved to either Baraboo or Portage between 1850 and 1860. Other HASELTINE's moved to these cities at about the same time, with Ira founding Richland Center. He had a son, Elmer (my grandfather) and may have had other children. Hassell

Would appreciate any info on Julia Augusta (Hurlbut) HASSELL who married Wm. HASSELL, an attorney of Oconomowoc, Waukesha County, Wisconsin. They had a son Edwin born circa 1862. 1870 Census shows Julia & Edwin living with her father, Edwin Hurlbut. Wm. died before 1870. Am seeking info on Carolanus HAWES b. 3/7/1831, in Vt.(?), d. 3/24/1920, in Leonard, Fannin Co., Tx. buried in Grove Hill Cemetery, Fanin Co., Tx. Gravestone says he was a Private in the 32nd Wisconsin Infantry. His mother was Sybil (Syble) Smith. Father, unknown. Heese

My great-grandfather, Daniel Friedrich Siegfried HEESE, came to South Africa in 1859. Around the same time, his brother August emigrated to America (Wisconsin). We know nothing of what happened to August Heese although we have a complete genealogy of the SA Heese's and fairly comprehensive details about the Pommeranian - and later, after 1945 - DDR Heese's. The Heese family comes originally from Lessentin, Zeitlitz and Schivelbein areas situated in the Regenwalde Kreis east of Stettin. I would very much like to know if there exists any information on August Heese in Wisconsin. From my side I can exchange information about the Pomeranian/South African Heese families. Carl Benjamin HEGWER immigrated to Wisconsin from Kunitz, Prussia in 1839. He settled near Freistadt, Wisconsin. He came over on the ship Bark Carolina. Jim Heiden is looking for information on the HEIDEN family of Jefferson & Dodge Counties, Wisconsin. Name also spelled HYDEN. They came from Schwerin Garwittz, Germany in about the mid-1850's. Original ancestor's name was Joachin Hyden. He was traveling with Charles STOEVHASE.(12/95)

Heimdahl

My great-great-grandfather Torger HEIMDAHL immigrated to the Beaver Creek / Franklin area of Jackson County, Wisconsin sometime between 1858-61 with his wife (Bergit Okdatter), son (Neri Torkel Johnson) and other possible children. Torger changed his name to Johnson when he arrived in America. Bergit died on the ship. Torger and his family were from the Telemark area of Norway. They may have had the following kids: Mary, Ole T. (who changed his last name to Heimdahl), Theodore B. (who changed his last name to Qualley). Seeking father of Gotlieb HENNING, born January 1817 in Klingbeck, Kreis Neustettin, Pommern. Gotlieb came to USA in 1884 and settled in Rock County, Wisconsin. Information on descendents of John Christian HERBST (1822-1902) and Wilhelmina BOY (1820-1892). They came to US from Germany around 1856-7, landed in Canada, came down St.Laurence and settled in Marion, Wisconsin in 1857, later moving to Mauston, Wisconsin. Buried in Oakwood Cemetery in Mauston. Known descendents are: Anna K. Herbst HEINZPETTER who died on unknown date in Reedsburg, WI. Rachel Frederika Ernestine Herbst KLEIN who married 11/26/1865 in Marion, WI. Christian HERBST who married Wilhelmena Matilda SCHULTZ and died 9/24/1913 in Mauston. Samuel Reinhold HERBSTwho died on unknown date in Mauston. Child of Anna K. Herbst Heinzpetter, Francis Joseph HERBST (1879-1929), was adopted by and raised by John Christian HERBST. He is my husband's grandfather.

Also seeking information on Ellen Elizabeth STRAND (1879-1938). Ellen was born in Norway and last saw relatives in Rice Lake, Wisconsin in 1899. She lived Hayward, Wisconsin at the time. I am looking for any relatives of my grandfather, Oscar E. HERTZBERG, who was born 23 May 1892 in Omro, Wisconsin and died 11 November 1963 in Buffalo, NY. His parents were Otto HERTZBERG and Martha SCHROEDER (Otto had 3 brothers, 3 sisters). Oscar had a brother, Leonard, and sisters Risada and Leone (DUEHNING). His nieces were Mary Duehning of Hartford, Wisconsin, and Ruth Duehning of Racine, Wisconsin. Finally, he had a cousin, Clarence Hertzberg, who lived in Berlin, Wisconsin. William F. HICKS, born circa 1830 in Garrard Co. KY., married (1) Nanny HEWITT in 1849 in Carroll Co. IL, (2) married Nancy SMITH, circa 1854 in IL, and (3) married Mary Jane LEE in 1870 in Wisconsin. Lived in Grant County Wisconsin around Boscobel in Watterstown Township. Had children Francis M. Hicks, born 1855 in Wisconsin, Emma Jane Hicks, born 1857 in Wisconsin. Spouse Mary Jane LEE died circa 1900 in Lancaster, WI. Spouse Nancy SMITH died 1870 in Boscobel, WI. William F. HICKS was a veternary Surgeon for 25 years in Wisconsin, and was in the Civil War (Calvary). I do not know what became of William F. HICKS, or when he died. Any help appreciated by Thomas Green. I am looking for information on surnames which include HILGART, WUDI (Woody, Woodie), and KUNDINGER. In particular I am looking for people who may share the last names listed above. The families came from Eisenstein, Bavaria around 1882 and settled near Marshfield, Wisconsin. They eventually followed the Central Wisconsin Railroad north until a good many of them settled in Price County, east of Park Falls. Looking for other descendents of Carl and Wilhemine HOFFMAN. Carl was b. Oct. 12, 1853 in Cartlow, Demmin, Germany. Died May 11, 1930 in Mondovi, Wisconsin. Married Wilhemine Hoffman on Feb 3, 1874 in Buffalo County, Wisconsin. Wilhemine HOFFMAN was b. April 26, 1853 in the Province of Pomern, Germany, died Feb. 23, 1929. Hoffmann

I am looking for information on Amalia HOFFMANN who married Leonard HEIM at St. Matthias Catholic Church in Greenfield (now Milwaukee) Wisc. in April of 1854. She was born in Prussia about 1836 and came to the U.S. about 1844. She may have a sister Agnes. I can't find anything about her parents. She and Leonard had 10 children, 8 of them survived to adulthood. Any info will be greatly appreciated by Virginia McKenzie. (10/96)


Hogan

I can't locate any information on my great grandfather, Oscar HOGAN. The family bible information (completed by his wife, Birdella Pfaff), says he was born in Trempeleau County on August 11, 1878, or maybe 1880. He had two brothers, Martin & Julius. He married Birdella Pfaff in Winona in 1902. Had 2 sons. County records have nothing on him and I don't know any other relatives. What can I do next? Looking for the death date and place of burial for Myron HOLLIS. Last known time alive was in Janesville, Rock, Wisconsin in 1910 (he was listed in sister's obit). George N. HOLMES, died 25 October 1901, buried at LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Wife Mary Ann Baxter died at LaCrosse 3 March 1926. Three children, all born in Wisconsin: Francis Grace, 1876 Blair, Trep Ct, Walter, Georgia. Francis Grace married Clarence R. OAKINS in 1895 at LaCrosse. Holtsapple

Three brothers, Michael, DeWitt, and Milton HOLTSAPPLE / HOLTZAPPLE / HOLSHOPPLE left Millerstown, PA in the 1870's and went to Wisconsin. Their mother's obituary of August 1892 says Michael lived in Monroe, Milton in Ellsworth, and DeWitt in Dakota, IL at the time. Michael reportedly moved to Ellsworth after the death of his wife, Rosina in 1905 and died 5 August 1919. "Captain" Joseph HOULE (Houel), born ? died 1879 in Kaukauna. Worked as voyageur, etc for John Lawe. Occupied land on South bank of the Fox River at Green Bay in 1818. Andrew John HOUWERS, lived in Sheboygan County, Wisconsin in the mid to late 1800's to early 1900's. He is buried in a cemetary between Kohler and Sheboygan Falls. Seeking information on the following families that moved to Walworth County circa 1857. Justus BARKER (1798-1878)=Rebecca VALENTINE, Erastus BARKER (b. 1815)=Perley HOSFORD (1816-1880), Julia Ann BARKER (1821-1870)=Albert Cyrus HOWE (1821-1906). Seek information on family of August HUMMERNICK, who came to Wisconsin in 1903. He was born in Hammerstein, Kreis Schlochau, West Prussia in Dececember 1858. I am saerching for any information regarding Immanuel HUNN who was born in Darmstadt, Germany on May 13,1827. He migrated to the United States in 1852 with two brothers, Jacob & August. Looking for info on John HUNTER, b. abt 1826 in NY, m to Emma ?. They had 7 children born in both Illinois and Wisconsin. They moved back and forth from 1859 to 1879 between the two states. Looking for information about Mary HURD, wife of Fred G. DAVIS. Mary was b 19 Jun 1866 in New Richmond, WI. She died (after 1913) in Clear Lake, Wisconsin. Children: Maude DAVIS, Vera DAVIS, and Evan DAVIS. She had 3 brothers: Chan, Noble, and Rob (Robert?). She was active in the Methodist Church in Clear Lake.
