The white and silver domes atop Hawaii's Mauna Kea are seen from the grounds of the W.M. Keck Observatory headquarters, about 20 direct miles away, or a one hour journey by four wheel drive vehicle. The peak, considered sacred by native Hawaiians, is home to the world's most advanced astronomical observatories. |
