This stunning photo of a burning pyre of automobiles was shot by a passing motorist, but it was not brought into our office. In fact, the photographer did not even consider selling the pictures until I found him, in Green Bay, at about 9 p.m. It took some intuition, a deep Rolodex and a lot of phone calls.  My original plan was to use some small "frame grabs" I had seen from a video broadcast on CNN. CNN was happy to share the video, but gave me the name of a person who shot still photos. The photographer, reached by cell phone,  had taken the digital snap shots, but could not do anything because he was on the road. He finally e-mailed them at 10 p.m., and we changed our front page.
