On Nov. 7, 2004, most of North America was treated to a massive northern lights display, which became visible shortly after the end of twilight. Clear skies in many areas of the country meant that many people were able to see the spectacle. The downside - it ruined a planned evening of deep sky photography. This image is a 20-second exposure at f/5.6 using a Nikon D100 digital camera, set at ISO 640.
