Modine-Benstead Observatory

Racine, Wisconsin

A group of Racine, Wis., area amateurs have built one of the midwest's finest private observatories. The Racine Astromonical Society maintains an extensive website as well, and holds public viewing nights on a regular basis.  This photo was taken with a Nikon N90s, Fuji 400 print film and a 16mm fisheye lens set at F/8 for about 15 minutes. The red streaks are me, carrying a red flashlight. An observer with binoculars can be seen between the observatories. He was "light-painted" with a regular flashlight.
