One of the most photographed areas on the moon is around the Apennine Mountains, the largest lunar mountain range, easily seen in even the smallest telescopes a couple days after the first half. Apollo 15, considered by many to be the most spectacular and successful moon mission, landed near Mount Hadley, in the Apennines, in 1971. The large crater is Archimedes, 140 kilometers wide. At top is Aristillus, 55 km across. Autolycus, 39 km, forms a triangle with the other two. |
