Off the arms of Andromeda is the galaxy NGC 891, at 10th magnitude and about 14' by 2", according to The Sky. This is a 38-minute exposure with Kodak E200 slide film, processed normally. The telescope was a home-made 8 inch f6.12 Newtonian, using a Nikon F3 and a Nikkor 1.4 teleconverter for an effective focal length of 1750 mm at f/8.65. Guiding was with an SBIG ST-4 using a Lumicon off-axis guider. Location: Suburban Milwaukee, Oct. 1, 2003. |
